A 61-year-old man died after being pulled into an MRI machine by its magnetic field at Nassau Open MRI in Long Island. Authorities are investigating the incident.
MRI safety requires removing jewelry, avoiding certain clothing, and informing doctors about implants and medical devices, as these items can pose health hazards.
"[Patients] should not have concerns," said Sean Maraj, Imaging Services Director at Long Island Jewish Valley. "Just be vigilant."
The man was wearing a large metal necklace when he entered a room where the machine, which uses a powerful magnetic field to create images, was operating.
In a tragic incident, a man lost his life during a routine MRI scan when a metal neck chain was drawn into the machine.
