In the wake of Christmas, there are warnings a so-called "white out" could sweep the country from Wednesday, January 8.

Leicestershire and Lincolnshire have both declared major incidents following the extreme weather which has triggered dozens of flood warnings, including one ranked as a danger to life.

Yellow warnings for snow and ice remain in place after severe flooding and snow caused travel disruption and school closures across the UK. The Met Office said wintry weather is expected to bring icy roads and travel delays to much of west England, Wales, north and west Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
