The India Meteorological Department issued a warning for cold wave conditions in north India, starting December 29, with minimum temperatures expected to fall by three to five degrees Celsius. According to IMD,

Delhi’s temperature has dropped to 12°C with fog covering the city. Cold wave warnings are issued for Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir from December 29 to January 3. Fresh Western Disturbances are expected to bring light rainfall or snowfall from January 1 to 6,

The weather may remain dry on December 30 and 31 as well, IMD added, while issuing a warning for dense fog for tomorrow. As per ANI, the temperatures are expected to plunge to 9 degrees Celsius. The people of Kanpur have been struggling with the cold as they seek protection through bonfires.

The weather agency has predicted cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Coldwave alerts have been issued for Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and a yellow alert for Himachal Pradesh.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance currently situated near Punjab and adjoining areas is expected to bring light rain or snowfall to isolated parts of the western Himalayan region.
