President Donald Trump on Monday announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire, after more than a week of fighting following Israel's strikes -- and subsequent U.S. attacks -- on Iran's nuclear program.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the ceasefire with Iran unveiled by President Donald Trump and said he had agreed to it, but warned his country would "respond forcefully to any violation.

It remains to be seen how long the truce will hold and whether it will pave the way for a nuclear deal between the U.S. and Iran.
