Cable news channel MSNBC is going to rebrand as My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, according to a new report from the New York Times. The change is happening because Comcast’s NBCUniversal is spinning off many of its cable TV assets into a new company called Versant, severing ties with the “NBC” part of MSNBC.
MSNBC originally got its name from a joint venture between Microsoft—which operated MSN—and NBC, retaining the moniker even after NBC parted ways with Microsoft. Now that neither Microsoft nor NBC will be involved,
MSNBC announced on Monday (August 18) that the network will be rebranded as My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, later this year as part of its separation from Comcast. The network will also be getting rid of its famous Peacock logo.
