The ambassador pointed to Norway’s noted role in negotiations regarding Colombia, a peace process that resulted in then-President Juan Manuel Santos winning the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize “for his resolute efforts to bring the country’s more than 50-year-long civil war to an end.”

Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots group of atomic bomb survivors from Japan, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel committee lauded the organization’s efforts to “achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again.

Nihon Hidankyo uses the testimony of those who survived the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings to campaign for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
