Novo Nordisk and Viatris have agreed to resolve a patent dispute related to Novo's blockbuster weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy, the companies told a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office tribunal.

Weight-loss drugs sell in Europe for a fraction of what they cost in the United States, a pattern that is typical for brand-name prescriptions.

In mid-September, Novo Nordisk inked a pair of deals worth a total of more than $1.1 billion in research and development (R&D) costs, payments, milestone fees, and royalties, with the explicit aim of bolstering its cardiometabolic disease therapy pipeline via as-yet-unexplored therapeutic modalities.
