Red warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland on Friday, as the dangerous Storm Éowyn heads towards the UK. The rare warnings for wind mean flying debris could cause a danger to life, with gusts up to 100mph (161km/h) along some exposed coasts.

The Met Office has issued a rare red 'danger to life' weather warning as Storm Eowyn closes in. Dangerous conditions are expected with the top level red warning for wind issued for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland across Friday morning (January 24).

The whole country will be under a status red "danger to life" warning on Friday as Storm Éowyn is set to bring "severe, damaging, and destructive winds". The storm is set to hit the country in the early hours of Friday morning.
