Many think the traditional five-week Triple Crown rotation of Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont needs a shake up as modern horse trainers do not like to race horses three times in five weeks.

According to WBAL-TV's Greg Ng, 1/ST Executive Vice President Mike Rogers said Tuesday that he was informed by trainer Bill Mott that Sovereignty will not run in the upcoming Preakness Stakes. Last weekend, Sovereignty beat out Journalism to win the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

Horse racing hasn't had a triple crown winner since 2018. That drought is now guaranteed to last another year after the announcement that Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty won't be running in the Preakness Stakes next Saturday.
