Apple won a major privacy fight after U.S. spy chief Tulsi Gabbard said Britain dropped its encryption backdoor demand, ending a dispute that risked violating the CLOUD Act and undermining user security.

Britain has dropped its demand for the iPhone maker Apple to provide a "backdoor" that would have enabled access to the protected encrypted data of American citizens, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said.

The UK has dropped efforts to force Apple Inc. to open a so-called backdoor to US users’ data, removing a point of contention between the two sides as they seek to finalize a broader trade deal.
