Cambodia accused Thai military forces on Friday of intensifying attacks along disputed border areas despite a first round of talks aimed at de-escalating tensions, according to state-run media.
The Thai military said ceasefire talks with Cambodia, set to begin on Wednesday, are expected to conclude with a meeting of the countries’ defense ministers on Dec. 27, as the two sides seek to end weeks of deadly clashes.
Thailand and Cambodia have signed a ceasefire agreement to end weeks of armed combat along their border over competing claims to territory. In addition to ending the fighting, the agreement calls for no further military movements by either side and no violations of either side’s airspace for military purposes.
