Dow Jones closes at record high with nearly 600-point gain after US makes moves on Venezuela
The Dow Jones rose 595 points, or 1.2% to $48,977, while stocks in American oil companies like Chevron, which is the last remaining U.S. oil major in Venezuela, also closed at a high. Chevron gained 5% Monday.
In midday trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit an all-time high, jumping 713 points, or 1.5%, to 49,095. The S&P 500 gained 0.8%, and the Nasdaq climbed more than 200 points, or 1%, to 23,458.

The market has respected a trend line yet again, at least so far, and now it looks like it is ready to get back to work after holiday trading.
