Major flash flooding in New Mexico has resulted in three deaths, property destruction, road closures, and evacuations.

No injuries or deaths are immediately reported, but officials say an unknown number of people are unaccounted for

The Village of Ruidoso in New Mexico confirmed that three people, including a 4-year-old girl, 7-year-old boy and man in his 40s-50s, were killed in flash floods that occurred on Tuesday, July 8.

The heavy rains occurred in the remote village of Ruidoso, about 180 miles south of Albuquerque, according to reports. During the monsoon season, which runs from late June to early September, NBC reported, storms are known for the flash floods, which can come on quickly and trigger events such as Tuesday, however, usually less fierce.

Ruidoso officials and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham are holding a news conference Thursday morning to give an update on Ruidoso flood response efforts. The news conference is scheduled to begin at 9 a.
