A major winter storm pummeled the Tri-State Area with snow and ice after New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency.

Heavier snowfall has been reported in Upstate New York, with 9.2 inches in Poughkeepsie and 10 in Pine Plains. For numerous counties, Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a disaster emergency due to "imminent danger to public transportation, utility services, public health, and public safety systems."

The biggest snowfall totals were north and east of New York City, specifically Connecticut and parts of Long Island. This is where the storm primarily performed as expected, with totals of 7-9". Some of the highest snow totals recorded were 9.1" in New Fairfield, Connecticut, and 7.5" in Babylon, New York.

A new map from the National Weather Service (NWS) shows the overall weather forecast and winter storm warnings. Snow has reduced significantly, as have sleet accumulations for the area of New York and New Jersey.

A winter storm warning in place for the tristate region. Six to 9 inches of snow is possible in upstate New York, with 10 inches possible in the Hudson Valley. Five to 8 inches is forecast for northern New Jersey, while Hartford, Connecticut, could get about 4 inches.
