World No. 1 and five-time World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, claimed the Norway Chess 2025 title after second-placed and reigning World Champion D. Gukesh blundered his position to lose on the spot against the USA’s Fabiano Caruana in the final round of the event held in Stavanger, Norway on Friday.

Magnus Carlsen won the Norway Chess title for the seventh time in his career, after a sensational fightback in the final round to draw against Arjun Erigaisi in the Classical game, which eventually put him out of reach of the likes of D Gukesh and Fabiano Caruana.

The 10th and final round of the 2025 Norway Chess gets underway on Friday with defending champion and world No 1 Magnus Carlsen, reigning world champion D Gukesh and No 2 Hikaru Nakamura among the chess stars fighting for the title.
