A high-level environmental official has received South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. Gov. Henry McMaster presented the Order of the Palmetto to S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) board member Duane Merrill Swygert in recognition of Swygert’s service in state and federal law enforcement and 20-year tenure as chairman of the Jasper County Republican Party.

Stilwell, a 34-year veteran of the South Carolina National Guard, currently serves as director of the Joint Staff for the South Carolina National Guard.
