The Arkansas Democratic Party has filed a lawsuit against Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Secretary of State Cole Jester over the scheduling of two special elections, alleging that the dates are outside the 150-day mandate in Arkansas law.

A Pulaski County Circuit judge ruled in favor of a Franklin County resident Wednesday and said a June 2026 special election to fill a vacant state Senate seat unconstitutionally deprives voters of a voice in next year’s fiscal session.

The court says the special election needs to be set as soon as practical and within 150 days after the seat vacancy.
