In a social media post, the brewery alluded to financial struggles as the reason for closing, saying there were 'too many obstacles to overcome.'

Akron is losing a craft brewery for the third time in less than a year. Downtown-based Akronym Brewing announced its plans to close its doors on Oct. 19.

Just weeks after announcing Akronym Public House in Medina is closing, the downtown Akron location is following suit, according to a social media post from the brewery. Akronym Brewing, located at 58 E.

The brewery opened at 58 E. Market St. in downtown Akron in 2018 and won awards in assorted competitions for its beers. The writing on the wall came last month when the brewery announced Akronym Public House & Pilot Brewery, a Medina outpost for the Akron-based brewery, would close Sept. 28.
