More than a week after storms from Hurricane Helene ripped through the Southeast, hard-hit Western North Carolina is still recovering.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said nearly 464,000 customers are without power due to catastrophic damage from Tropical Storm Helene.

Despite some residents around Western North Carolina getting power back, many more are still in the dark after Helene.

Storm survivors in North Carolina are struggling without flood insurance. People who lived in the hills and mountains where the floods hit are now facing massive repair bills and risk losing everything they own.
