Syracuse named Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli its starting quarterback after Angeli beat fellow transfer addition Rickie Collins in a heated training camp battle, sources tell CBS Sports' Chris Hummer.

“It was extremely hard,” said Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown. “I was up for a long time just trying to figure this out.”

Notre Dame went with a battle between CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey in fall camp and parted ways with Steve Angeli after spring ball. So, if the Irish viewed Angeli as QB3, then the third choice becoming a starter at a program that went 10-3 a season ago is pretty impressive.
