The shooting happened on the final night of WestFest, a celebration of the multiple cultures in West Valley City.

Vainuku said a report of the shooting came in at 9:45 p.m. There was an unknown number of passengers in the victim’s vehicle, Vainuku said, but no one else was injured.

A 17-year-old survived the shooting at a home in West Valley City. He was shot in the head and remains in critical condition, police spokesperson Roxeanne Vainuku said.
