President Donald Trump on Tuesday selected Texas border czar Michael Banks to lead the U.S. Border Patrol, tapping a career

Mike Banks, a former Border Patrol agent, has served in his current role as a special advisor to Gov. Greg Abbott since January 2023.

Banks has been serving as the Lone Star State’s first-ever border czar — a position created by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2023 to deal with the unprecedented influx of migrants.

Hours after Trump’s inauguration, his administration canceled appointments allowing migrants to enter the U.S. to request asylum, leaving many of them stranded on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Texas launched its own border strategy during the Biden Administration, and now President Donald Trump has picked the leader of that project to run the Border Patrol.

Starr County, Texas residents spoke to Fox Digital about what they want to see President Trump accomplish during his administration and urge the president to continue building the wall.

While law enforcement efforts to secure Texas' border with Mexico have come under heavy criticism in recent years by immigrant rights advocates, many law enforcement officials say they are feeling positive as President Donald Trump returns to the White House.
