In an effort to prevent beach drownings, Bay County officials distributed double-red surf flags to about 100 beach vendors on Wednesday.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff today in Tallahassee and Orange County in honor of Sen. Geraldine Thompson.

St. Paddy's Day events power much of this weekend's fun, along with the debut of a new music fest at Daytona's Ocean Center.

The shoreline flags are meant to be a visual reminder right as folks make the decision to go into the water on a double-red flag day.
