The New England Patriots enjoyed decades of stability at the head coaching position, but for the third time in three seasons, they will have a new man lurking on the sidelines. That's because the team announced Sunday it has decided to part ways with Jerod Mayo after just one season on the job after succeeding Bill Belichick in Foxborough.

Whoever took over for Bill Belichick was going to have a nearly impossible task. Beyond Belichick's six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots, his poor personnel moves in his final few Patriots seasons left the franchise with a talent-poor roster.

The New England Patriots fired coach Jerod Mayo following his one season as Bill Belichick's replacement, the team announced Sunday. Mayo, 38, a former Tennessee Vols linebacker, was elevated to head coach last offseason after Belichick exited the franchise following 24 seasons.
