Dave Parker, a hard-hitting outfielder who was set to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame next month, has died, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced Saturday. He was 74.

Hall of Famer Dave Parker, a slugger for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1970s and ’80s, has died at 74 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. The one-time National League MVP won the World Series with both the Pirates and the Oakland Athletics.

Dave Parker, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013, will be inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame next month in Cooperstown.
