U.S. President Donald Trump compared the impact of American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites to the end of World War Two on Wednesday, arguing that the damage was severe even though available intelligence reports were inconclusive.

Few people inside the administration knew the president was moving forward with plans for the attack, even late last week.

Iran said Monday that the number of missiles fired matched the number of bombs dropped by the U.S. over the weekend.
