FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin reports from the Point Pleasant Boardwalk in New Jersey where beaches are closed ahead of Hurricane Erin. The hurricane is forecast to bring the biggest waves to the Jersey shore beginning Thursday.
Hurricane Erin is expected to bring flooding to parts of the Jersey Shore and coastal Delaware on Thursday, Aug. 21. NBC10 has the timing and impact.
People trying to enjoy the last hurrahs of summer along the coast are being met on Wednesday with rip-current warnings, closed beaches and treacherous waves as Erin inches closer, once again on the cusp of becoming a major hurricane as it treks north after lashing Bermuda.
On Aug. 21, the Jersey Shore and other beaches area will see "significant coastal hazards" as a result of Hurricane Erin, according to the NWS forecast. The agency issued a wind advisory between 10 a.m. and midnight from Ocean County southward, with sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.
Hurricane Erin’s impacts are already underway across the Southeast, where beaches are closed, and coastal dangers are building for the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
