Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered the parole board to carry out a risk assessment into Lyle and Erik Menendez to determine whether they pose a risk to public safety after spending 35 years in prison for the 1989 murder of their parents.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has directed the state's parole board to investigate whether Erik and Lyle Menendez pose an "unreasonable" public safety risk if released from prison, where the siblings have spent decades for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents,

The question for the board is a simple one, do they pose a current ‘unreasonable risk to public safety?”‘ Newsom said.
