As San Jose begins sweeping its largest homeless encampment in Columbus Park, people who have accepted offers of shelter will be safe from having their vehicles towed until space opens up.

More than 300 residents are being relocated because of public safety concerns and plans to restore Columbus Park for recreation.

One large camp, in Columbus Park, is scheduled to be dismantled beginning Monday. But some who live there say it feels like the city has been funneling homeless people there for years.
