The Transportation Department plans to reclaim management of Washington Union Station, one of the country's biggest rail hubs, President Donald Trump's latest move to give the federal government more of a role running what he portrays as a run-down capital city.

The Department of Transportation announced that it is taking over the management of Union Station in Washington, D.C., saying that it had fallen into disrepair. The station is owned by the department and has been since the 1980s, but it is currently managed by Amtrak.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Wednesday that his department is taking management of Union Station, the main transportation hub in Washington, away from Amtrak, in another example of how the federal government is exerting its power over the nation’s capital.
