The 1977 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 45th Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 11 and 12 June 1977. The second year of the FIA Group 5 and Group 6 regulations, it produced an exciting race right up to the end.

Hurley Haywood had the longest wait between his first Le Mans win and his last. He first won in 1977 and last won in 1994 , a span of 17 years and 5 days. Alexander Wurz waited the longest between his inaugural victory at the 1996 event and his second win—following 12 years, 11 months, 29 days later—at the 2009 edition.

Aug 16, 2018 · The 1977 24 Hours of Le Mans - Jacky Ickx, Jürgen Barth and Hurley Haywood won as underdogs after the #3 Porsche 936 driven by Henri Pescarolo was forced to retire at the beginning of the race. Ickx, who had yet to do a stint, took the wheel of the #4 (beyond 40th position at the time).
