He first won in 1977 and last won in 1994, a span of 17 years and 5 days. Alexander Wurz waited the longest between his inaugural victory at the 1996 event and his second win—following 12 years, 11 months, 29 days later—at the 2009 edition.

A third place for the French 935 with Ballot-Léna/Gregg/Barras was the best-placed Group 5 car; the Lichtenstein-BMW 320 was slow but finished, though behind a Porsche 934 and the Group 2 Luigi BMW CSL, which wasn’t an obvious Le Mans racer but impressed with speed and reliability.
