Feb. 4, 1968: For the only time in its history, the Trans Am runs concurrently with sports car prototypes in the 24 Hours of Daytona. Jerry Titus and Ronnie Bucknum took the victory with a fourth-overall finish in a Carroll Shelby Ford Mustang.

Mar 1, 2018 · Recently restored 1968 Trans Am Mustang in Daytona/Sebring colors of red and black. Later in season Shelby would run cars again in yellow for awhile, to try and change their engine luck and then at end of season to Ford corporate blue to try some different “mojo”.

As for the Shelby’s team, the only races they won were the 24 Hours of Daytona in February, 1968, and Horst Kwech won at Riverside in car #17 in the next to last race of the season. The Manufacturers Trophy was already sowed up by Chevrolet.
