The Shelby Daytona Coupe (also referred to as the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe [2]) is an American sports-coupé. It is related to the Shelby Cobra roadster, loosely based on its chassis and drive-train developed and built as an advanced evolution.

Jan 8, 2019 · As the story goes, the truck carrying CSX2286, the one-off Daytona Coupe built special for the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans race, was involved in an accident on the way to the track. Carroll Shelby’s “secret weapon,” as the car would become known, was badly damaged and would not be able to race.

During 1964 and 1965, CSX2299 had run in 10 of the 25 races that the Daytona Coupes participated in, more than any other example. It scored four GT class wins, plus three second places and two DNFs, setting lap records at five of its races.

Oct 27, 2015 · Chassis #CSX2287 was the prototype Cobra Daytona Coupe. It is the only coupe (chassis/body) that was built entirely at the Shelby American race shop in Venice, California. Jan 7, 2023 · A fierce, competitive rivalry pitted the 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe against the Ferrari 250 GTO. The prior design by Shelby with the AC Cobra fell short at the Circuit de la Sarthe, with the Mulsanne Straight exposing its weakness. The open-top design of the AC Cobra meant that the drag created would slow the car down by 10 seconds per lap.

The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe was the final piece of the puzzle that Shelby American needed to capture the FIA sports car world championship. It won the crown in 1965, becoming the only American manufacturer to do so.
