May 18, 2021 · Now with that disclaimer out of the way, if you wish to proceed on exterior looks on determining what parts you need, then with the assumption that it's still 100% original, if a 1965-1966 full size Ford came with a 390 or larger engine those cars came with a heavy duty (large axle bearing and thicker axle shafts) Ford 9".

Jul 13, 2017 · According to the 1960 - 64 Ford Car Parts and Accessories Manual, heavy duty suspension on Galaxies included 6 leaves on the rear. Each spring of the set was chosen for the specific application. Station wagons (estate cars) also had 6 leaf rear suspensions, but the individual leaves had different part numbers from the HD package.

Apr 21, 2016 · The weakness in the Ford 9 setup is-Old stock axles-Pinion support-wimpy yokes If you intend more power, I'd look to an aftermarket case. But honestly the three above are the main issues. If finances are an issue, change carrier to a lock and install old axles... upgrade them later. I'd trust Moser 28 spline axles.
