Beautifully restored lighthouse at the end of the scenic old Mission Peninsula drive (M-37). Been here several times before but this is the first time in about ten years.

The picturesque Mission Point Lighthouse was built in 1870 to warn ships away from the dangerous shoals extending into Grand Traverse Bay at the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula in Lighthouse Park.

Mission Point Lighthouse is located at the end of Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City. Follow M-37 North until it reaches the northernmost point. At this point you will reach the 45th parallel and Mission Point Lighthouse.

Mission Point Light is a lighthouse located in the U.S. state of Michigan at the end of Old Mission Point, a peninsula jutting into Grand Traverse Bay 17 miles (27 km) north of Traverse City. When it was built in 1870, it was an exact copy of the Mama Juda Light [2] (now destroyed), which was built on the Detroit River in 1866. [3]

Built in 1870, this lighthouse is owned and maintained by Peninsula Township. It is half way between the North Pole and the Equator exactly on the 45th parallel. Mission Point Lighthouse was decommissioned in 1933 and replace by a buoy light.
