We lost another giant in black society, Assata Shakur AKA Joanne Chesimard. I had the privilege of reading her book while I was in college. At the University of Illinois we started a black book club where we had different historians come in like Stokley Carmichael, Frances Cress Welsing, Sister Soldier, etc. And one of the 1st books that we read was The Autobiography Of Assata Shakur who was accused of k*lling a state trooper, she escaped from Prison and moved to Cuba. We are saddened to hear of the passing of Assata Shakur - revolutionary, author, and activist. Branded by the system but embraced by the people, she stood as an unyielding symbol of Black liberation. Her exile never dimmed her light. Her life was a testament to resistance in the face of oppression. Though the system tried to silence her, her words, spirit, and defiance lit the path for generations of Black women and men to demand justice and liberation. Rest in power, Assata. Your fire lives on.
